organizational unit (OU)

Organizational Units (OU) are administration units in directory systems such as X.500, Active Directory Service ( ADS) or Netware Directory Service ( NDS), which provide administration options. The administration units can be assigned via access rights and transferred to other objects. This allows the rights of workgroups or departments to be flexibly restricted or extended.
