orthogonal mode transducer (polarization) (OMT)

An orthogonal mode transducer, orthomode transducer (OMT), is a physical component used in parabolic antennas ofVSAT systems.

Orthomode transducers are located in satellite antennas directly behind the feed horn. The OMT transducer has the task of separating the transmit and receive signals polarized in different orthogonal polarization planes, as well as the circularly polarized signals. In the case of the transmit antennas, the two separated satellite signals are passed to the parabolic antenna. In addition, the OMT transducer protects the LNB converter from excessive transmit energy.
