parallel ATA (PATA)

Parallel ATA (PATA) is the original version of Advanced Technology Attachment (ATA), which was largely superseded by the introduction of Serial ATA( SATA) in 2003.

PATA is used extremely rarely, namely for the connection of internal storage media such as hard disks and optical drives. The PATA standard was defined by INCITS and goes back to the AT PC, Advanced Technology (AT).

Due to the relatively short 40-core ribbon cables, which can have a maximum length of 45 cm, PATA forms the hard disk interface for internal hard disk drives in computers. The signal voltage of 5 V is relatively high compared to that of SATA, which is only 250 mV.
