passive emitter and rear cell (solar cell) (PERC)

Passive Emitter and Rear Cell (PERC) is a technology that increases the efficiency ofsolar cells. The term PERC stands for: a solar cell with passivated emission electrode and reflective rear.

The PERC technology compensates for radiation losses of the red light spectrum by reflecting light rays, which have passed the solar cell without light yield, at the back so that they pass the current generating layer again. The reflection takes place at a special layer applied to the back surface, also known as back surface passivation. Backside passivation increases the efficiency of solar cells by about 1%.

In PERC technology, the back surface field is not continuous, as in classic solar cells, but consists of individual local aluminum points with a passivation layer between them.
