physical markup language (PML)

Physical Markup Language(PML) is a description language proposed by EPCglobal as a method for describing products. The Physical Markup Language is based on the Extensible Markup Language(XML) and is used for communication over the Internet.

The PML description language describes products in a simple form so that products can be identified via simple computer input, such as typing "soda pop" or" graphics tablet." The PML files are directly related to the EPC code and the EPC Information Service. This provides dedicated access to the products, taking into account security-related access authorizations, as well as EPC search functions.
