point cloud (PC)

A point cloud consists of data points that are represented in a coordinate system in a spatial structure. The data points of a point cloud are disorganized and have no fixed structure.

Each individual data point is uniquely determined by its X, Y and Z spatial coordinates. Whereby the reference point of each coordinate value is uniquely determined by the intersection of the three coordinates. Various attributes can be assigned to each data point.

Point clouds are used to design 3D grids or other 3D graphics and are used in image processing. Mainly in the processing of medical graphics, of buildings, in geographic information systems( GIS), in computer games and in virtual reality.
