Compressive loads on cables lead to punctual changes in the cable dimensions.

An impact point is formed at the location of the pressure load, which changes the impedance of the cable at this point. The changed cable impedance leads to reflections of the signal. Therefore, when laying cables, it is necessary to take into account the specifications for the pressure load, which often occurs at the fastening elements. The procedure for determining the pressure load on fiber optic cables is described in EN 187 000 method 504.
