process control system (PCS)

A process control system (PCS) is a computer system that uses sensors to perform quantitative measurements of the manufacturing process in order to use the results to make corrections so that production can run fully automatically. PCS systems work with field buses to which the actuators and sensors are connected. The operator can also intervene manually in the production process.

The term Process Control System (PCS) replaces the Distributed Control System ( DCS).
