quad full high definition (QFHD)

Quad-Full-HD (QFHD) is a UHD format for video and television. Quad-Full-HD has twice the image resolution of HDTV or Full-HD.

The term Quad refers to the number of pixels, which is four times that of HDTV. The quadrupling results from the doubling of the number of pixels in the horizontal and the vertical. Full-HD has 1,920 pixels in the horizontal, Quad-Full-HD correspondingly 3,840. The same applies to the vertical, which is 2,160 pixels for Quad-Full-HD. This representation is also referred to as 4K2K, four thousand two thousand.

By doubling the pixel count, the aspect ratio between HDTV and Quad-Full-HD remains 16:9 in each case. The advantage of Quad-Full-HD is that HDTV playback devices can be used without having to apply pixel corrections.

The pixel numbers of Quad-Full-HD partly deviate from those of the 4K standard, where it is, for example, 4,096 pixels in the horizontal for D-Cinema.
