RealVideo, like RealAudio, is one of Real Networks' RealMedias. It is a streaming format for real-time transmission ofdigital video and digital TV over the Internet.

RealVideo can be used for Internet TV and Web TV and can be played via RealPlayer.

Streaming media is transmitted using the store-and-forward method, in which the video files do not have to be loaded onto the hard disk; only the first few seconds of the video display are buffered, and the subsequent image build-up is supplied by the server during transmission. Video streaming consists of a continuous data stream of compressed frames that are transmitted over the Internet using a real-time protocol such as Rapid Spanning Tree( RSTP) or Real Time Protocol( RTP) and displayed on a player.
