realtime system

A real-time system, Realtime System, is a data processing system in which data processing occurs immediately after it is generated, without any perceived latency. The results of appropriate data processing are usually reused immediately, usually on the same system or facility from which the input data originated.

Real-time systems operate with a real-time operating system and, in conjunction with the computer hardware and the application software, guarantee that the application programs are processed without delay or at least with extremely low latency.

Real-time systems are used where the shortest possible delay times are required and where the application programs must respond immediately to changes. The response times ofreal-time computing systems are in the millisecond and microsecond range. They are mainly used in industrial processes, in production and control technology and in process automation.
