registered DIMM (RDIMM)

Registered Dual Inline Memory Modules (RDIMM) are memory latches that are used in server systems. RDIMMs are characterized by high bandwidth and scalability and can therefore reduce the data load of the memory controller and increase the number of additional registers that can be connected.

RDIMMs can synchronize the timing between the individual lines. A lock loop is used to produce a clock signal without delay time, which is synchronized with the original clock signal via regeneration. This allows several identical and completely synchronous clock signals to be generated from the original clock signal.

Registered DIMMs ensure high data integrity of the main memory and are used as DDR2-800 modules or also as DDR2-667 and DDR2-566 memory types. As development is reaching technological limits with DDR2-800, they are increasingly being replaced by the serial memory technologies of Fully Buffered DIMMs( FB-DIMM).
