remote operation service element (OSI) (ROSE)

The Remote Operation Service Element (ROSE) belongs to the general service elements of the Common Application Service Elements( CASE).

In addition, they belong to the communication standards of the conceptual OSI management and are used in services that support the cooperation of client and server in both directions. For example, in the Application Control Service Element( ACSE), in the Common Management Information Protocol( CMIP) and in the Simple Network Management Protocol( SNMP).

ROSE is comparable to Remote Procedure Call( RPC), which is commonly used in distributed systems. As a description of the formal notation for defining the syntax ofoperations, ROSE specifies a protocol for bidirectional transmission between client and server. ROSE is specified in the ITU-T recommendations X.219 and X.229 as well as in the ISO standards 9072.
