remote repeater
The remote repeater is used to bridge larger distances (1 km) between LAN segments of a local network.
A remote repeater is a repeater that consists of two parts, which is why one part is also called a half repeater. Both parts of a remote repeater are connected to each other via full- duplex lines using the Inter Repeater Link( IRL) and functionally form a repeater that connects coaxial LAN segments on the physical layer. This connection is also called a link segment. The two half repeaters together with the link segment fulfill the complete repeater functionality.
Fiber optic cables are typically used to implement the link segments. The functions are specified in FOIRL.
