remote voice protocol (RVP)

Remote Voice Protocol (RVP) is a transport mechanism that can be used to transmit digital telephone sessions over packet or circuit-switched data networks.

The RVP protocol can extend the services ofPBXs for wide area networks. It supports connection and configuration capabilities between the remote client and the server formed by the Tk or PBX. RVP/ IP uses TCP protocol for signaling and control data and UDP protocol for voice data transport.

The header of RVP/IP consists of a 1 bytelong length field, an equally long data field for the protocol code and a variable length data field for the RVP/IP messages. This data field contains the RVP Control Protocol (RVPCP) and the RVP signaling.
