resource oriented architecture (ROA)

A resource is an instance or capability of a network. In traditional data centers and clouds, a resource is a subset of the broader notion of resource. In Resource Oriented Architecture (ROA), a resource is an instance that can be tagged and identified with a Uniform Resource Identifier( URI).

In information technology, an architecture refers to the structure of the information system and the relationships among instances. As for Resource Oriented Architecture (ROA), it incorporates some elements of Representational State Transfer( REST) web services that influence the integration of programming interfaces. The ROA architecture leverages existing Web technologies and Web protocols, including the HTTP protocol and the XMLdescription language. In the ROA concept, infrastructure elements include servers, computers and storage, etc., and also Web pages, Active Server Pages, Java Server Pages, scripts, and other instances. The ROA architecture is characterized by the resources, their URIs and representation, and the links between them.

In software engineering, Resource Oriented Architecture (ROA) is a type of software architecture in which the programming for software development is specified for the resources. In this case, resources are software components that can be reused for different applications.
