reverse path multicasting (RPM)

Reverse PathMulticasting (RPM) reduces the network load by preventing the multiple forwarding of data packets. To ensure this, the packets are only forwarded via the interfaces via which the target system can be reached by the shortest route. In addition, no data passes through interfaces from which the router itself has received the information. With RPM, each subnet is therefore connected via its own route, so that no loops can occur.
