rightsizing
Rightsizing describes strategies for realizing demand-oriented system relationships without giving preference to specific platforms.
In contrast to downsizing, which aims to completely replace mainframe technology, rightsizing establishes cooperative relationships between different computer platforms.
With rightsizing, networks, servers and clients can be adapted according to needs and applications. For example, the servers of a client- server architecture or in server-based computing can be designed to be scalable and expand with the number of clients, as in blade servers. The clients and thin clients can be ultra-thin clients, thin clients or personal computers, depending on the application.
Upsizing is considered a variant.
