route

In navigation technology, a route represents a distance between the location and the destination. Such a route representation can contain intermediate destinations or location points, so-called waypoints, which must be taken into account. Depending on the route program, the stringing together can be determined by the shortest distance between the waypoints, the route that can be covered in the shortest time or the one that is most scenically attractive.

Routes are determined by the stringing together of waypoints, whereas trackpoints are positional data that are regularly recorded and stored by track loggers according to predefined criteria such as a distance traveled or after a fixed time interval.

Under these conditions, a route can be determined between the starting point and the destination - Passau and Cologne - with the waypoints Bamberg and Miltenberg. Since our road infrastructure allows different routes even under these assumptions, the constraints - as there are: the shortest travel time or the shortest distance etc. - have to be considered. - have to be taken into account.

In the navigation devices, the routes are displayed visually, each change of direction and distance is shown on the display, but they can also be given in voice output. When a waypoint is reached, the intermediate destination is displayed.

When the route is traveled, the navigation devices save the individual routes in a track log.
