routing and remote access service (Microsoft) (RRAS)

Routing and Remote Access Service (RRAS) is an extension of the Remote Access Service( RAS) that was released with Windows NT.

RRAS is a standard Windows 2000 service that can be deployed in NT. RAS supports dial-up connections via modem, ISDN or X.25 and is multilink capable, allowing multiple connections to be established simultaneously to increase transmission bandwidth.

RRAS represents an extension of the capabilities of the RAS components. Thus, normal LAN routing can be performed using an NT server as a router, dial-in routing with automatic route creation is supported, and in the original RAS service, RRAS, like RAS, allows management of up to 256 simultaneous connections. The advanced protocol suite supports Open Shortest Path First( OSPF), Routing Information Protocol (RIPv2), Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol( DHCP), Point to Point Tunneling Protocol( PPTP), and Remote Authentication Dial- In User Service( RADIUS).
