security architecture (ISO)

The security architecture of the International Standards Organization( ISO) forms the second part of the OSI reference model and is the basis for integrating security in open communication systems.

The OSI security architecture does not describe a specific technology for how security is achieved in open systems, but it addresses the security aspects in open communication systems and defines the associated thought and conceptual world as well as guidelines and measures to improve existing standards and develop new ones. The OSI security architecture establishes the relationships between security services and mechanisms with the layers of the OSI reference model. The various security services and mechanisms are located at all seven layers of the OSI reference model; from the physical layer to the application layer.
