Shareware are freely available programs that can be retrieved and tested for a certain time. After that, they must either be deleted or licensed for regular use. Corresponding programs are also referred to as demoware.
Shareware is a distribution concept for free software, which is distributed via electronic media and via print media by means of compact disc or DVD. The user receives a version of the program reduced by some features, which he can use for a certain duration and also pass on. If the user wants the full version, license fees are charged.
The shareware concept differs from freeware or public domain software in that the creators of this software forego licensing income.
