signal level attenuation characterization (charging station) (SLAC)

Signal Level Attenuation Characterization (SLAC) is a mechanism by which electric vehicles and charging stationsconnect to each other.

SLAC is specifically designed for charging operations where multiple electric vehicles and charging stations are interconnected. To determine which charging station the electric vehicle is connected to, the electric vehicle sends a broadcast that can be received by all charging stations, which respond with a confirmation message. The unique identification of the charging station to which the vehicle is connected is done through the SLAC mechanism.

SLAC is based on a request- response process whereby the request is made from the electric vehicle. The electric vehicle can use the signal level to filter out the one it is connected to from the various responses from the different charging stations.
