small multimedia interface (SMI)
The SMI connector is a fiber optic connector for polymer step fibers and gradient fibers.
It was originally developed by Sony and is used in consumer electronics between audio and video devices, but also in the 1394interface and in home cabling. It is a rugged, easy-to-mount duplex connector of small form factor( SFF) construction for polymer fibers.
The SMI connector has a plastic ferrule and can accept polymer fibers with a core diameter of 1 mm and an outer diameter of 2.2 mm.
