smart media card

SmartMedia Cards (protected spelling: SmartMedia) are small memory cards with dimensions of 45 mm x 37 mm, with a thickness of only 0.76 mm. These memory cards are used in multimedia technology, especially for audio recordings.

Smart media cards are available with capacities up to 128 MB. They have a service life of over 1,000,000 memory cycles, a maximum data throughput of 1.5 MB/s. Erasing, storing and reading data is done in small data blocks, which makes storage more flexible. The supply voltage is 2.7 V and 3.6 V.

The inexpensive and widely used Smart Media Card has a serial interface and can be plugged into a PC Card adapter and thus connected to the PC Card bus. In addition, there are special smart card readers for flash memory that can handle several formats and can be connected to the USB interface.

The smart media card is no longer manufactured, it used to be produced by Toshiba, Siemens, Samsung and others.
