sound density (E)

The sound density (E) describes the time average value of the sound intensity, however, the specification refers to the volume and not to the area as in the case of the sound intensity.

It is the sound energy that passes through a room of a given volume.

The unit for sound density is watts per cubic meter (`(Ws)/m^3`). It is calculated from the quotient of sound intensity and sound velocity.
