source encoding
Source coding is a data compression that frees the signal of the data source from redundant information and reduces its volume by data reduction and compression. It is a compression method in which the information content ischecked for redundancies and irrelevancies and these are eliminated.
In source coding, the analog signal to be coded is converted into a binary string. During digitization, the digital signal should not distort the source information as much as possible. In order to transmit the signal to be encoded as effectively as possible, it can thus be checked for redundancies and compressed before transmission.
Source coding, in which the information is converted into a bit sequence, can be performed by sampling the analog signal followed by quantization and pulse code modulation or delta mod ulation.
