state media office (Germany)

The State Media Authority (LMA) licenses analog broadcasting services to radio and television broadcasting companies. Included in the licensing are special broadcasting services and television services such as teletext or radio text.

The State Media Authority receives the allocated broadcasting frequencies from the Regulatory Authority for Telecommunications and Posts(RegTP) and allocates them to the broadcasting companies in accordance with the media laws of the individual German states. The state chancelleries or the LMA decide on the general allocation between public and private broadcasters and the individual allocation. The LMA then prescribes the use of the licensed frequencies to the network operator.
