Substrate refers to a solid material that is used as a base material and to which other materials can be applied. Inelectronics and information technology, substrates form the basic substance. Mostly it is a semiconductor material like silicon( Si), gallium( Ga), silicon carbide( SiC), gallium arsenide ( GaAs), gallium nitride( GaN), indium phosphide ( InP) and others.

Additional semiconductor materials are deposited onto the substrate material using chemical vapor deposition( CVD) and physical vapor deposition( PVD). These compositions are used to create the various semiconductors used in electronics, such as diodes and transistors, as well as integrated circuits and logics.

In product manufacturing, the substrate material is cut as a wafer and etched with the further semiconductor materials to form electronic components or chips.
