super DLT (SDLT)

SDLT (Super DLT) is a tape drive technology that builds on the proven DLT drives. Unlike Digital Linear Tape (DLT), SDLT drives work with magnetic heads that store several hundred data tracks on the magnetic tape.

On the sDLT magnetic tapes, as with the DLT drive, the data is stored in fixed data blocks and read out immediately after storage and compared with the data stored in the buffer. This read-after-write, which is a verify function, achieves high data integrity. In addition, SDLT uses Advanced Metal Evaporated( AME) specially coated magnetic tape. SDLT tape drives come in different versions such as SDLT220, SDLT320 and SDLT600. The SDLT cartridges are fully compatible with respect to the SDLT drives and read compatible with certain DLT drives.

SDLT320 represents the following technology level: 160 GBstorage capacity for uncompressed data and 320 GB for compressed data, a data transfer rate of 32 MB/s for compressed data via Ultra- SCSI, 30,000 hours head life and 1,000,000 media passes guarantee reliable continuous operation with a Mean Time Between Failures( MTBF) of 250,000 hours.

SDLT-600 has a storage capacity of 300 GB for uncompressed and 600 GB for compressed data and a data transfer rate of 36 MB/s for uncompressed and 72 MB/s for compressed data.
