super extended graphics adapter (SXGA)
The Super Extended Graphics Adapter (SXGA) is the extension ofXGA, which is also called XGA-2. The display has a resolution of 1,024 x 768 pixels, and the color depth is 16 bits, which corresponds to High Color with 65,536 colors.
In addition, SXGA also supports the rarely used aspect ratio of 5:4 with a resolution of 1,280 x 1,024 pixels, but with a reduced color depth of 8 bits, i.e. 256 colors.
So that the 5:4 display can also be reproduced on 4:3 screens, this format can be converted to the 4:3 format. After conversion, it has a resolution of 1,600 x 1,200 pixels. This resolution corresponds to that of Ultra-XGA( UXGA).
As an SXGA variant, there is also SXGA+ for screens with an aspect ratio of 4:3 and a resolution of 1,400 x 1,050. This standard is not designed for a specific frame rate.
