telemonitoring

Telemonitoring is a technique used in telemedicine for remote patient monitoring of chronically ill patients. In telemonitoring, patients' medical values are continuously diagnosed, monitored and transmitted to a central location in their private environment.

The monitoring is neither location- nor time-bound; the collected data is transmitted via existing communication networks or via the Internet of Medical Things( IoMT) to a hospital, where it is processed, diagnosed and archived in corresponding information systems. The results are incorporated into the therapy.

Telemonitoring takes place on the patient's premises. Using appropriate measuring devices such as ECG and dialysis equipment, certain vital data such as blood pressure, heart rate, body temperature or blood sugar are recorded and transmitted to the care provider. If predefined threshold values are exceeded, an alarm is automatically triggered and appropriate measures are initiated.

The advantage of telemonitoring is that the patient can be continuously monitored in his or her own environment with little personnel effort. Patient data can be recorded via appropriate measuring devices or also via smart wearables. The aforementioned networks are available for data transmission, as are mobile networks, VPNs or the Internet of Things( IoT).
