three position modulation (3PM)

3PM coding, Three Position Modulation, enables high packing density compared to other coding methods, but it requires complex hardware.

3PM coding

3PM coding is an adaptable coding according to the Run Lenght Limited( RLL 2.7), in which there may be at least two and at most seven 0 bits between two 1 bits. In 3PM coding, three input bits are converted to 6 output bits. The minimum time difference between the transitions is at least twice as long as the clock period, the maximum corresponds to six times the clock period.
