Timbre is the timbre with which musical instruments differ from each other. The timbre is independent of the pitch. Even with the same pitch, musical instruments can be distinguished from each other. For example, the timbre of a violin is different from that of a flute or piano, even if the three musical instruments play the same note at the same frequency. The timbre is related to the complexity of the harmonics, their number, amplitudes and phase positions.
