Incabling, torsion is the twisting of cables in the longitudinal axis.

In TP cables, the lay lengths change due to torsion, which results in the coordinated stranding elements changing in relation to each other. Since the lay lengths of the stranding elements are matched to each other to achieve the best possible Near End Crosstalk( NEXT), twisting a TP cable will worsen this transmission parameter.

It is therefore essential to observe the relevant installation regulations when laying cables. The procedure for determining the torsion of optical fibers is described in EN 187 000 Method 508.
