triple super twisted nematic (display) (TSTN)

InSTN technology, the different wavelengths of light cause different propagation speeds, which leads to undesirable color effects of the display modules. These effects must be compensated for in the more advanced liquid crystal technologies DSTN (D, Double), FSTN (F, Film), CSTN (C, Color) and TSTN (T, Triple).

The various twisted-nematic (TN) technologies

In TSTN (Triple Super Twisted Nematic) technology, several thin films are used to compensate for the unwanted color effects by rotating the light in the direction opposite to the plane of polarization of the TN cell. This compensates the color distortions and the characters are displayed in white.

Structure of the TSTN cell

A TSTN liquid cell consists of the illumination element whose light is polarized in the polarizing filter placed in front of it. The STN liquid crystal is located in the middle of the layers and is surrounded on both sides by a glass pane and a filter foil. The light is emitted via another, downstream polarization filter.
