ultra-reliability machine-type communication (5G) (uMTC)

Machine-Type Communication(MTC) is a service introduced by 3GPP and used for machine-to-machine( M2M) communication in the Internet of Things( IoT).

Two MTC variantswith higher reliability are used in 5th GenerationNew Radio(5GNR) mobile networks: Massive Machine-Type Communication( mMTC) and Ultra-Reliability Machine-Type Communication (uMTC).

The two methods differ in terms of traffic profiles, their performance capabilities, and the number of different devices. Machine-to-machine communication is characterized in particular by high reliability and lowest latencies in the uMTC method. It is used in patient monitoring, automotive safety, remote control of machines, and power grid monitoring.
