universal communications identifier (unified address) (UCI)

The Universal Communications Identifier (UCI) is a strategic initiative of the European Commission for the standardization of service numbers and the identification of service features. To ensure that this UCI initiative can be implemented, the European Commission has entrusted the European standardization body ETSI with standardization.

The initiative is about standardizing the different telephone numbers for fixed networks and cell phones, the e-mail addresses and other addresses and telephone numbers of the most diverse telecommunications services for a subscriber so that he or she can communicate via a single number. Whether e-mail or telephone, each subscriber should be able to reach all services with one number. Each UCI is assisted by a Personal User Agent( PUA), which manages the addresses and the forms of communication for the user. The user can specify rules to take into account the service, the form of communication and the language in which he wants to communicate with other participants.
