universal subscriber identity module (UMTS) (USIM)

Universal Subscriber Identity Module (USIM) is a memory card used to store UMTS applications on a Universal Integrated Chip Card( UICC). It is comparable to a SIM card, but is intended for UMTS and has additional features.

In addition to user-specific data, the USIM card stores the access authorization of the UMTS provider. The card can have the standardized size of chip cards or it is available in smaller sizes as a plug-in card for the UMTS cell phone.

The data stored on the USIM card corresponds to that on the SIM card, as does the procedure with the login. To support near field communication( NFC), an interface is being standardized to read out the USIM data.
