validation

Validation is a testing activity in which products, protocols or documents are tested with respect to their specifications.

  1. Term from the harmonized protocol test procedures of the European Union( EU). Validation is a testing principle that relates exclusively to the specification of a protocol or software and not to its implementation. This includes all activities that show a protocol description to be logically correct. Validation can also be considered as a side effect in the creation of a reference machine.
  2. Validation is also the approval of a product or software for official use. This can be in the form of a product evaluation as described in 1.
  3. Checking the conformity of software, for example in the validation of the source code. For example, in search engine optimization, the HTML source code must be validated so that it is correctly captured by the search engine robots. The HTML pages can be checked for correct syntax using a validator.
