vertical alignment (display) (VA)

Vertical Alignment (VA) is a display technology where the crystal molecules of the display are arranged vertically, in contrast to the classic TN technology where the crystal molecules are arranged horizontally and homogeneously.

The reason for the vertical arrangement is to improve the viewing angle and response time. In addition, VA displays work with a homogeneous electric field and inhomogeneously arranged liquid crystals.

One disadvantage of VA technology was the limited viewing angle, which was improved by various further developments. For example, through Multi-Domain Vertical Alignment( MVA), Premium MVA (P-MVA) and Super MVA (S-MVA). Other VA technology such as Pattern Vertical Alignment( PVA) and some proprietary techniques complemented the VA developments. Later, In-Plane Switching( IPS) was developed, a much improved technology with a wide viewing angle and improved color quality.
