Video file formats include video display formats such as the CIF display format, Quarter Common Intermediate Format( QCIF), Full Common Intermediate Format (FCIF), and HDTV, as well as file formats for video compression and streaming.

These include MPEG, DivX, Advanced Video Coding( AVC), H.261, H. 263, H. 264/AVC, QuickTime, Audio Video Interleave( AVI), Advanced Streaming Format( ASF), Flash Video( FLV), WindowsMedia Video (WMV), M4V and MP4, among others.

In addition, there are digital video formats specific to each manufacturer that are used in studio applications. Most digital video formats have a resolution of720 x 576 pixels, others conform to the CCIR file format, and still others are for HDTV with 1,920 x 1,080 and 1,280 x 720 pixels. For compression, digital video formats use MPEG-2 and the DCT transform with intra- frame coding, color subsampling and a 16-bit audio sampling. Well-known file formats include MicroMV DVCAM and IMX from Sony, DVC Pro25, DVC Pro50 and DVC Pro100 from Panasonic, High Definition Video( HDV) from Sony and JVC, and AVCHD from Sony and Panasonic.
