virtual path connection (ATM) (VPC)

A Virtual Path Connection(VPC) is a logical connection in ATM networks. It is formed by two or more virtual paths( VP). A VPC can be preconfigured and is unidirectional.

Virtual Path Connections exist as a permanent connection, the Permanent Virtual Path Connection( PVPC), and as a switched connection, the Switched Virtual Path Connection( SVPC). While the former are set up by providers, the switched connections can be switched by the user on a case-by-case basis.
