voltage regulator (smart grid) (VR)

Voltage stabilizers, voltage regulators ( VR) or line conditioners( LC), are components in power supply networks. They are used as controllable transformers at strategically important points in power supply networks and smart grids and compensate for voltage drops in the power lines.

The voltage regulators help stabilize the grid voltage and improve the electric power quality by automatically increasing it during voltage drops and reducing it during surges. However, they cannot change the power factor.

Voltage stabilizers monitor the line voltage and compare it to a preset default value. In the event of deviations, they readjust the voltage. If the voltage is automatically adjusted so that the low voltage remains within a predefined tolerance limit, this is referred to as Automatic Voltage Regulators( AVR). Tracking is performed by changing the position of the tap on the secondary side of the transformer.
