Waveguide is a technique for sound synthesis.

In this technique, instruments are recreated in computer models in such a way that they react like an acoustic instrument. This includes, for example, changing the sound characteristics at higher frequencies.

Because of the modeling, waveguide synthesis is an extremely computationally intensive technique that requires suitably powerful processors. It is also implemented in sound cards.
