wide area paging (WAP)

Wide AreaPaging (WAP) is a global paging service that can be used worldwide. WAP paging provides the same paging classes as normal paging services; namely numeric, alphanumeric and tone-based classes. Public Wide Area Paging (PWAP) must be subscribed to as a radio service and channel usage is assigned by the operator.

Wide Area Paging (WAP) and Public Wide Area Paging (PWAP) are mainly transmitted via satellite systems such as Inmarsat, IRIDIUM or via broadcasting such as the Radio Data System ( RDS).
