wireless application environment (WAP) (WAE)

Wireless Application Environment (WAE) forms the application layer of the Wireless Application Protocol( WAP) and is used to support WWW- and mobile phone-based applications and services.

Notable among these are the Wireless Markup Language(WML) for displaying text and graphics, WMLScript, and the Wireless Telephony API(WTA) for advanced telephone services. In addition, WAE has a micro browser and interface description to program phone services, as well as a set of data descriptions for graphics, phone book and calendar entries.

Wireless Application Environment (WAE) is a protocol specified by the WAP Forum.
