year 2000 (Y2K)

Y2K or Y2K bug stands for the computer problem that arose at the turn of the year from 1999 to 2000. Many computer programs were not prepared for a representation of a year as a four- digit number. The background was the high cost of memory in the early days of programming. Therefore, years were initially mapped only as two-digit numbers. The change to the new millennium meant high programming costs and still led to system crashes in some companies.
