Ethernet tree (E-Tree)
The Metro Ethernet Forum( MEF) has defined three Ethernet services for Carrier Ethernet: E-LAN, E-Line and E-Tree.
E-Tree forms a routed point-to-multipoint( P2MP) link. From the transmission point to the receiving facilities, the connection is multicast; in the reverse direction, it is a point-to-point( P2P) connection. These connections are referred to as Ethernet Virtual Connections( EVC).
E-Tree is ideal for multiplexed connections to the Application Service Provider( ASP) or Internet Service Provider( ISP). However, service functionality is limited because the receiving end nodes cannot communicate with each other.
