European color initiative (ECI)

The European Color Initiative (ECI) is made up of experts from the image processing and printing industries. The ECI was founded in 1996 on the initiative of various major publishers, including Burda, Bauer, Gruner+Jahr and Axel Springer.

The European Color Initiative defines as its goals the media-neutral preparation, dissemination and exchange of color data on the basis of the International Color Consortium( ICC), the harmonization of data exchange formats with the definition of color spaces, cooperation with national and international standardization bodies and the publication of ICC color profiles.

The ECI has defined its own ECI RGB color space (eciRGB), which adapts the working color spaces of image processing to the color spaces of printing presses. This color space is used for color-correct reproductions in the graphic arts industry.
